The Matthysse-Lundy fight is being negotiated still, according to RingTV, but it looks like it’s going to be added to the Brook vs. Alexander card.

It’s a peculiar choice for Matthysse because Lundy is coming off of a loss in his last fight to Raymundo Beltran and Lundy was already exposed previous to that by John Molina. However, Lundy is well known to the casual boxing fans in the U.S because of his fights on ESPN2, so it makes sense from that standpoint, if nothing else. Lundy has little chance of winning the fight because Matthysse is going to be way too powerful for him, but he will give Matthysse a fighter with a name and it’ll be interesting while it lasts.

Lundy has fast hands and he’s a good boxer with wins over Richard Abril and Dannie Williams. However, he’s not a powerful lightweight and he’ll have problems with Matthysse’s constant pressure.

Before his loss to Beltran, Lundy had been trying to entice Adrien Broner into fighting him. Broner never took the challenge seriously and the loss for Lundy against Beltran removed any hope, such as it was, of him ever fighting Broner.

Matthysse defeated previously unbeaten Ajose Olusgun by a 10th round TKO in a war last September. It was a really hard fight for Mattysse because Olusgun never stopped throwing punches and he really gave it all in that fight.
