Image: Marquez shows why he’s the greatest Mexican fighter ever by destroying PacquiaoBy Eric Thomas: Juan Manuel Marquez really cemented his legacy last Saturday night with his big win over Manny Pacquiao. He left the Filipino fighter on his face on the canvas in the 6th after landing one of the best right hands you’ll ever see. Marquez was simply too strong for Pacquiao, and he showed it almost every time he landed one of his shots in this fight.

The win puts Marquez in the class of Erik Morales, Julio Cesar Chavez and Marco Antonio Barrera. Marquez might be the best of the bunch because he didn’t have a lot of padding on his record. He fought the best from the early part of his career and you can make a very strong argument that the only losses that Marquez should have on his resume is his loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. when Marquez moved up in weight from lightweight to welterweight to fight Mayweather and in his first of his career against Javier Duran, a fight in which Marquez was disqualified in the 1st round.

Marquez’s two losses and a draw with Pacquiao are fights that many boxing fans see as wins for Marquez. You can say the same for Marquez’s losses to Chris John and Freddie Norwood.

One of the things that you got to like about Marquez is that he’s one of the rare fighters that have been able to keep fighting at a high level even as he gets close to 40. Most fighters are shot by the time they reach Marquez’s age and they’re definitely not beating guys like Pacquiao.

Marquez really didn’t have to throw a lot of punches in the fight because his shots were so powerful that he did damage whenever he landed. He put Pacquiao down in the 3rd round with blast that Pacquiao was very lucky to get up from because a lot of fighters would have stayed down after getting hit.
