Manuel Charr to face Derek Chisora in March in Germany

haye34By Scott Gilfoid: German news is reporting that #8 WBC heavyweight contender Manuel Charr (22-1, 12 KO’s) will be facing the UK’s Dereck Chisora (15-4, 9 KO’s) in a bout that will take place in March next year sometime in Germany. There still isn’t a specific date or venue for the fight yet, but we’ll learn more in the coming weeks.

It’s an intriguing fight because Chisora and Charr are seriously made for each other. Both guys have good power and both like to go toe-to-toe in fighting. Chisora is obviously having major problems with his career right now after having lost four out of his last five fights.

I don’t care that his loss to Robert Helenius was kind of controversial; the fact of the matter is Chisora was dominated by Tyson Fury, Vitali Klitschko and David Haye.

That tells you that Chisora is incredibly limited and is someone that will only be able to find success against certain types of fighters, and perhaps Charr is someone that Chisora can beat. If this fight had taken place two years ago I would automatically have selected Chisora as the winner, because he looked pretty good in 2010 after having blown out Danny Williams and Sam Sexton. But Chisora’s losses to Fury, Helenius, Klitschko and Haye, make me think that Charr can this one if he jumps on Chisora early and fights at a fast pace.

Chisora’s conditioning will be a question mark for this fight, because he doesn’t seem to always come into his fights in the best shape. He was fat against Haye and Fury, and he underperformed in both fights. He was in much better shape against Vitali and Helenius, and he fought well in those fights despite losing.

At this point I think Chisora’s confidence could be at an all-time low because he looked really terrible in getting stopped by Haye in the 5th round last July. That was an awful performance from Chisora, and I don’t know that will mess with his mind.

Charr destroyed Konstantin Airich in one round last Friday night in a wild kamikaze attack by Charr. He showed nice power and punch selection in stopping Airich with a body shot. He never gave the guy a chance, and that was pretty impressive stuff. Charr can definitely punch and if he jumps on Chisora in the same manner I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw another 1st round knockout victory for Charr because Chisora isn’t hard to find and he’ll just stand there and try to trade with Charr. I can see Chisora getting knocked down over and over again by Charr until the fights stopped.
