Lee Purdy vs. Carson Jones postponed

By Scott Gilfoid: The December 8th scheduled bout between welterweight fringe contender Lee Purdy (19-3-1, 12 KO’s) and Carson Jones (34-9-2, 24 KO’s) has been postponed due to Purdy getting sick. He reportedly has some kind of virus and he won’t be ready to go on Saturday at the Olympia, in London, England.

It’s unclear when the Purdy-Jones fight will be rescheduled. It might be better for Purdy that it not be, because Jones was clearly the favorite in this fight. The card will go ahead without this fight. It would have been a huge leap up in competition for the 25-year-old Purdy to take and I think he would have failed miserably. Jones is just too talented and experienced for a guy like Purdy to compete.

The middleweight clash between Darren Barker vs. Kerry Hope will now be the main event.

Here’s the rest of the card, such as it is:

Erick Ochieng vs. TBA
John Ryder vs. Eamonn O’Kane
Wadi Camacho vs. Toks Owoh
Khalid Yafai vs. Jorge Perez
Chris Evangelou vs. TBA
Martin Joseph Ward vs. Ibrar Riyaz
Dale Evans vs. Kevin McCauley
Andreas Evangelou vs. Danny Couzens
Callum Smith vs. James Tucker

It looks like a bunch of mismatches to me, including the main event between Barker and Hope. Both Hope and Barker are coming off of recent knockout losses. Hope was stopped by Grzegorz Proksa earlier this year, whereas Barker was taken out by Sergio Martinez last year. Barker hasn’t fought at all in 2012 due to injury problems.
