Jennings stops Tupou; Maddalone defeats Polley

By Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten USBA heavyweight champion Bryant Jennings (16-0, 8 KO’s) continued his unbeaten streak with an impressive 5th round knockout win last night over the big 253 pound Bowie Tupou (22-3, 16 KO’s) at the Temple University McGonigle Hall, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.

Jennings, 28, used his long 84” reach and nonstop punching to dominate the limited but hard hitting Tupou. In the 5th, Jennings planted Tupou on the canvas with a sweet right hand to the head that ended matters. The fight was officially halted at 1:37 of the round.

Jennings isn’t that tall at only 6’2”, but his reach is longer than the Klitschkos and his high work rate makes him very hard to beat for anyone in the division. His power isn’t that great but he makes up for it by sheer punch volume. This was a good win for the 28-year-old prospect. An interesting fight that many boxing fans would like to see in the future is Jennings vs. Deontay Wilder. The two of them had talked about putting a fight together not too long ago, but Wilder’s promoters at Golden Boy were cool to the idea.

Maddalone destroys Polley

38-year-old journeyman Vinny Maddalone (36-8, 27 KO’s) destroyed Byron Polley (25-14-1, 11 KO’s) by a 3rd round knockout on Saturday night at the Resorts World Casino, in Queens, New York, USA. Maddalone put Polley down three times in the fight, once each round, with big power punching. The fight was finally stopped at 1:11 of the 3rd. Maddalone had lost his last fight to Tyson Fury by a 5th round knockout last July. This performance against Polley was a much better effort from Maddalone.
