Haye: I’m too old for Price and Fury; I only want Vitali

haye3243By Scott Gilfoid: If Tyson Fury and David Price were hoping they could get a fight with former WBA heavyweight champion David Price to try and prove themselves and make a name for themselves then they can pretty much forget it, because Haye has zero interest in ever fighting either of them. He only wants 41-year-old WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko and that’s the fight that Haye will be waiting on until the bitter end. He’s locked into waiting for Vitali and he says he’ll retire if he can’t get that fight.

Haye said to I Film London “I’m waiting for the fight [Vitali] to happen. If HE wants the fight to happen…No disrespect to either of them [Fury and Price], they can probably go on to do great things, but I’m too old and too small. I want to fight Vitali. Vitali said he can knock me out. I want him to prove it.”

I think Haye would KO Price and Fury, but it wouldn’t be a big deal because these fighters are only popular locally and they’re not huge stars even in their own country along the lines of Haye and Amir Khan. As such, those are worthless fights for Haye and I don’t blame him for not wasting time fighting those guys.

Vitali has been quiet about his future plans for his next bout. Right now he’s putting his focus on his political career, and it’s unclear when or if he’ll be fighting again. Vitali normally fights on a fairly routine schedule, so if he will be fighting again he’ll be making a decision on hi next opponent in the next couple of months. I hate to say it but I don’t think it’s going to be Haye that he ends up fighting.

Haye hasn’t been staying busy and you know the old saying “Out of sight out of mind,” and that applies to Haye. If he’s just going to sit around hoping he can get the fight with Vitali by yapping in the press, that’s just not going to work. Haye has to make it interesting for Vitali by taking on one of the top heavyweights and beating one or two of them.

I don’t count Haye’s win over a second tier fighter like Dereck Chisora as a worthy accomplishment, and I doubt Vitali was moved very much by that win either. Haye has to beat someone like Kubrat Pulev and Tomasz Adamek and then maybe he might get Vitali to take notice. Until then, I see Haye getting ignored.
