Image: Hatton: Pacquiao should retireBy Chris Williams: Former two division world champion Ricky Hatton believes it’s time for Manny Pacquiao to call it a day after getting starched in the 6th round by Juan Manuel Marquez last weekend. Hatton, 34, feels that the Filipino doesn’t have anything to prove and he’d be better off retiring from boxing rather than continuing with his sagging career.

Pacquiao has lost his last two fights, and really you can say he’s lost his last three fights because Marquez clearly beat the Filipino last year in November.

Hatton said to Sky Sports News “The only advice I could give Manny Pacquiao is that his legacy is already secured. The thing is with us fighters is that there is always one more fight. What’s he (Pacquiao) going to achieve by having one more fight? Probably nothing. He’s an eight weight world champion. There’s nothing more to be said. You’d like to see him go into retirement.”

I totally agree with Hatton, but I think Pacquiao should retire before he gets smashed again by Marquez because that’s going to be his destiny if the two fighters step inside the ring again next year. Marquez is simply too good. This Mexican fighter is just too talented for Pacquiao and we’ve seen that in their four fights now.

Pacquiao can kid himself by saying that he just got careless last weekend in getting knocked cold by a right hand from Marquez but that’s not the reality of the situation. Marquez set a trap for Pacquiao and he stumbled into the trap without a clue. It doesn’t matter how many times they fight now, Marquez will keep beating Pacquiao like he did in the other fights with him.

Pacquiao may get knocked out even quicker by Marquez in the rematch and then it’ll really be curtains for the Filipino fighter.
