Image: Fury vs. Johnson tonight: Kevin's going to end Tyson's Klitschko dreamBy Scott Gilfoid: Tonight heavyweight contender Tyson Fury (19-0, 14 KO’s) will have to prove for the first time in his career that he’s got the talent to actually beat someone that can fight instead of the soft opposition that’s been put in the ring with him so that he pad his resume.

Fury, 24, will be facing easily the toughest opponent of his career tonight against American Kevin Johnson (28-2-1, 13 KO’s) Odyssey Arena, Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. This is the fight where Fury is going to have to prove that he’s as good as he says he is and I suspect he’s going to be found out to be an imposter by Johnson.

Fury really has his hands full for this fight, because he wasn’t planning on fighting a talent like Johnson. Initially, Fury thought he was going to fight the flat-footed Denis Boytsov, a European heavyweight with not much size and a predictable offense. To go from that fight to Johnson is like night and day, because all the preparation that Fury did for Boytsov will now be useless to him against the much more mobile and talented Johnson.

Johnson’s trainer Jeff Mayweather, the uncle of unbeaten superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr., said to boxrec.com “At the end of the day, who has the best ability? Kevin Johnson has way more ability than he [Fury] will ever have.”

I agree with Mr. Mayweather. I see Johnson as having WAY more talent than Fury. It’s not even close. Of course, it only takes a few minutes of viewing both fighters go about their paces in some of their fights to notice how well schooled Johnson is compared to Fury.

What I like about Johnson is his excellent jab and sneaky left hook that he likes to throw. Johnson lulls you to sleep with his jab, but then he drops that bomb on you with his left hand and that’s she wrote. Besides his beautiful jab and left hook, Johnson has a really nice right uppercut that he likes to throw. It’s a real fast punch and almost impossible to defend against because of the quickness. Johnson is real good at nailing plodding type heavyweights like Fury with that punch and he can throw it with knockout power.
