Froch: We’re going to get Kessler in the UK

kessler32By Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) believes his promoter Eddie Hearn from Matchroom Sport will be able to successfully lure Denmark’s Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) to come over to the UK to fight him rather than having the fight take place in a neutral country or Denmark.

Froch naturally sees it as a huge advantage for himself if he can get Kessler over to the UK to fight in front of a large pro Froch crowd. Froch lost his previous fight to Kessler back in 2010 in Denmark, and Froch seems to think that Kessler should be fair about it by volunteering to fight in the UK.

Froch said to Sky Sports News “We are going to get him [Kessler] over to UK soil. I don’t think we’ll get him to Nottingham but we’ll get him certainly over here at home, so that rematch I very, very strongly believe I can win.”

If Froch couldn’t beat Kessler in Denmark what makes Froch think he can beat him in the UK? What’s different other than the crowd screaming for Froch the entire time?

I think Kessler should tell Froch ‘No deal if the fight is taking place in the UK. It’s either Denmark or nothing.’ Froch wants this fight too badly and if he wants it that much then he needs to travel Denmark and fight Kessler in front of his fans.

Kessler has the upper hand on Froch because he whipped him already, so he doesn’t need to even fight him again and he still comes out ahead. It’s Froch who has the burning desire to make this fight happen due to his ambition of wanting to avenge his defeat. The problem he’s too needy and that’s a real turn off. Kessler needs to tell him ‘It’s Denmark or nothing,’ and then let Froch stew on that for a week or so. I’d cut off contact with his promoter Hearn because he’ll likely keep trying the old UK bit, and who wants to hear him trying to beat a dead horse by going over what Kessler won’t agree to.

Kessler has the advantage in the negotiations and he needs to take the bull by the horns and lead it to where he wants it to go. If Froch wants that fight then let him fight in Denmark and try his luck for a second time. Heck, if Froch tries hard enough, he might be able to coax a couple thousand of his loyal Brits to fly over to give him support for the Kessler fight in Denmark. I kind of doubt it but it’s always possible.
