Deontay Wilder: Are some boxing fans jealous of his success?

wilder23By Scott Gilfoid: Without a doubt unbeaten heavyweight prospect Deontay Wilder (26-0, 26 KO’s) is the best heavyweight prospect in the game right now. The late trainer Emanuel Steward realized this and many other people increasingly believe this as well after seeing the kind of incredible talent that the 6’7” Wilder possesses. However, there is a certain segment in the boxing world that seem angry and almost spiteful about Wilder’s increasing success.

These fans don’t like him, they say he’s no good, and they think he won’t ever amount to anything. It just appears that some of them can’t stand to see a fighter with Wilder’s talent succeeding because it almost seems like they want him to fail. I know it’s hard for some fans because they have their heroes and when I knew guy like Wilder comes onto the block they see their heroes forgotten about with Wilder hogging a lot of the good press.

But that’s the way boxing is and always has been throughout the many years of the sport. Unless you have incredible talent, a new guy is going to come along afterwards and if he’s got the ability and skills that boxing fans are looking for from a fighter, he’s going to be the one that’s being talked about.

I think Wilder is the new guy on the block and he’s going to be the one that moves forward to snatch the heavyweight titles in the coming years. Wilder may not get a shot at a world title in 2013, because it’s very difficult to line up a title shot nowadays unless you become the #1 mandatory challenger, but I think Wilder will definitely get his shot in 2014 and from there I can see him holding down world titles for many years to come.

I think Wilder brings out of jealousy from some boxing fans who don’t like to see him catching up and on the verge of surpassing their favorite fighters. I think many of these boxing fans will come around eventually and grow to love and support the talented Wilder even though he’s likely to go way beyond their own favorite fighters in terms of accomplishments.

You can’t help but to like Wilder as a person because he’s so humble, so even when he shows himself to be better than the other heavyweights, I suspect he’ll bring out less jealousy from fans and more support. I think it’s better that fans support him because he’s going to be successful and there’s nothing that can be done about that. It’s better to support him than to hate the guy because it’s not going to change anything wishing that he fails because he won’t. He’s too talented.
