Danny Garcia: Is He The Real Deal?

Dany Garcia(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) The reason I ask this is because the only notable victory on the Philadelphian’s record is Amir Khan. Danny Garcia beat Erik Morlales, who WAS an absolute gladiator in his prime, having fought some of the best in the business like Manny Pacquaio and Marco Antonio Barrera (these fights in particular were blockbusters) but he has aged a lot since then and is nowhere near the fighter he was. All credit to him still for fighting on for this long.

Back to Garcia. After defeating Khan with a crushing knockout blow to the Brits neck area he then goes on to fight Morales for a second time, I understand there may have been a clause in the contract from the first fight here, but then he goes on to fight Zab ‘Super’ Judah. How does this happen? It’s quite frustrating how Angel Garcia (Danny’s father) who is a very disrespectful guy (some may say racist too for some of his previous comments in the build up to the Khan fight) says him and his son fight ‘the best in the business’, but they come off a great, unexpected win over Khan then to fight two way past their prime fighters like Judah and Morales. To me this is not fighting the best in the business at all, Garcia unified titles in his weight class and should be going after people like Lamont Peterson, Juan Manuel Marquez (may not have been possible due to fighting Pacquaio) or Lucas Matthysse.

I do believe that all three fighters would beat Garcia, most notably Marquez and Peterson. I want to see Danny Garcia really tested and fight one of these guys, I don’t know whether he ever will but to be cemented and proven as the best in the Light Welterweight division he needs to do it. To me he’s trying to keep that 0 as long as he can without truly fighting the best in his weight class. I know this happens with a lot of other boxers too but Garcia in particular or more his father talk more than most about how great they are, they should back it up. I also believe if we see a resurgence in Khan’s career we will probably see a Garcia vs Khan II, that’s if Danny keeps his titles. I think Khan woul win a rematch but you never know in boxing?

On the other hand the boxing world will have the pleasure to see Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner tear up the Light Welterweight division in the very near future, (which I can’t wait to see) he will be number one. It’s scary to see the level of ability that this young man possesses. The future of boxing looks bright to me if the correct fights are made while the best fighters are in their prime. At the moment I feel they aren’t.
