HayeCharrBy Sean McDaniel: #8 WBC heavyweight contender Manuel Charr (22-1, 12 KO’s) got his first taste of the big time in fighting WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko last September in Moscow, Russia. Unfortunately for Charr, he was stopped in four rounds. However, he wants to get back in the ring with Vitali before the big 6’7” Ukrainian retires and he figures the quickest way to get there is to face former WBA World heavyweight champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) in 2013.

Charr figures that the two of them can fight with the winner getting a title shot against Vitali. Haye already badly wants a fight with Vitali, but he’s been ignored despite his constant calling him out in the media.

Charr said “I can only hope Vitali doesn’t retire. I heard that David Haye wants to fight him, too. Well, David, we both have the same goal, so let us find out in the ring who should challenge Klitschko, I am hereby officially challenging you for an elimination bout.”

Charr has been calling Haye out since last Summer after Charr showed up at Haye’s post-fight press conference after his knockout win over Dereck Chisora. Haye humored Charr as the time, saying “Call my manager Adam [Booth].”

I don’t know if Charr has done that, but I think it’ll be a tremendous waste of time if he does, because Haye has been quite clear that he only wants to get a farewell fight against Vitali and then retire from boxing. Haye has opportunities to fight the likes of David Price, Tyson Fury and probably even Alexander Povetkin if he wants to, but he’s entirely focused on getting Vitali in the ring because he thinks he can beat him.

A lot of boxing fans think that Haye is just looking to get a big payday to pad his retirement. Indeed, Haye will make a lot more money in a fight against Vitali than he would in fighting any other heavyweight in the division right now.
