Image: Brook vs. Alexander on January 19th at the Nokia Theater, in Los Angeles, CABy Scott Gilfoid: The January 19th fight between Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) and IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) finally has a venue after weeks of searching around. The fight will be staged at the Nokia Theater, in Los Angeles, California, USA.

This means that the fight will effectively be taking place in a neutral venue, as the 25-year-old Alexander doesn’t have a fan base there despite being from the United States. Alexander’s fans are in his home city of Saint Louis, Missouri. However, that still doesn’t give Brook any kind of advantage in this fight.

It just means that Brook won’t have to listen to thousands of pro-Alexander fans screaming their heads off in support for their hero. Brook is still just as much over his head in this fight than he always was. This isn’t Michael Jennings, Hector Saldivia or Luis Galarza that Brook will be fighting on January 19th.

Those were all former overmatched opponents for Brook, and they’d be overmatched by a whole lot of other welterweights in the division. Brook is going to be facing one of the best welterweights out there in Alexander, and I see a bad night for Brook. He’s up the creek without a paddle in this fight.

Alexander hits hard, has fast hands, and is outstanding on defense. If you don’t believe me then watch the masterpiece performance that Alexander put in earlier this year when he shut out completely the dangerous Marcos Maidana in beating him by a lopsided 10 round unanimous decision.

That win was like watching a perfect game in baseball. It was a priceless performance the way he shut Maidana down completely, allowing him very few opportunities to land his big power shots. I rate Maidana as a better fighter than Brook, and that just shows you much trouble Brook is going to have against Alexander.
