Image: Beltran defeats Kim; Magdaleno decisions ArrellanoBy Jim Dower: Earlier tonight on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights, NABF lightweight champion Raymundo Beltran (27-6, 17 KO’s) successfully defended his title in beating Ji-Hoon Kim (24-8, 18 KO’s) by a 10 round unanimous decision at the Mirage Hotel & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The final judges’ scores were 98-92, 98-92 and 97-94, all for the 31-year-old Beltran.

It wasn’t an easy win for Beltran, however, as Kim really took the fight to him and was able to score some big shots in almost every round. Kim knocked Beltran down hard in the 1st round with a nice left hand. However, Kim got a little ahead of himself while trying to finish Beltran off and ran into a hard left hand that stunned him.

Beltran then put Kim down with a left hand. In the 2nd round, Beltran was able to control the action with his heavy shots. He suffered a cut over his left in the round, and left himself too wide open on defense much of the time.

Beltran was able to control the action through the rest of the bout with his hard body shots and constant pressure. Kim looked uncomfortable with the Beltran’s nonstop attacks, and he eventually wore down.

In other action on the card, unbeaten super bantamweight prospect Jesse Magdaleno (13-0, 9 KO’s) defeated Jonathan Arrellano (13-2-1, 3 KO’s) by an 8 round unanimous decision. The final judges scores were 80-70, 80-69 and 80-70. Magdaleno punished the light hitting Arrellano all though the fight, and put him down in the 6th and kept hammering away at him for the full 10. Unfortunately, Magdaleno was unable to score a stoppage despite trying hard.

Other boxing results on the card

Jose Roman SD 8 Robert Osiobe
Evgeny Gradovich TKO 7 Willie Villanueva
