Image: Arum says he wants Pacquiao-Marquez 5th fightBy Chris Williams: Moments ago, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said he would like to put Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KOs) and Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO’s) back in the ring for a fifth fight to see if Pacquiao can avenge his defeat tonight. When asked if he’d be interested having Pacquiao attempt to avenge his 6th round knockout defeat tonight, Arum said “Why not? Why not? Sugar Ray Robinson fought Jake Lamotta six times, so why not?”

Pacquiao himself said he’d be interested in taking an immediate rematch with Marquez as well.

Marquez knocked Pacquiao out tonight with a hard right hand in the 6th that put Pacquiao down on the canvas flat on his face. Pacquiao didn’t stir for several minutes in a Ricky Hatton type knockout. Pacquiao finally came to but when he was being interviewed after the fight his eyes looked like he was still badly hurt. His were staring off into space in a really weird way like someone who hadn’t fully regained his senses. It was pretty scary to look at, and I wouldn’t advise him to be fighting Marquez any time soon.

The last thing Pacquiao needs right now is to get back in there with Marquez in four months and get knocked out again. The way that Pacquiao was knocked out tonight, he needs at least six to eight months to recover from that kind of a knockout, believe me.

Marquez had knocked Pacquiao down with a beautiful looping right hand to the head in the 3rd round that sent Pacquiao down flat on his back with his head bouncing off the canvas in a scary way. I was surprised that Pacquiao got up off of the canvas from that knockdown because it was a really hard shot.

In the 5th round, Pacquiao did a nice maneuver where he stepped on Marquez’s foot and then hit him at the same time so that he fell down from being unable to move back from the shot. The referee didn’t see Pacquiao stepping on Marquez’s shoe so he counted the knockdown as legit but it really shouldn’t have been.
