Image: Arum: No tune-ups for PacquiaoBy Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum isn’t interested in matching his cash cow Manny Pacquiao soft for his next fight to see if maybe something got knocked loose in his head from his 6th round knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez last Saturday. Arum wants to put Pacquiao right back in the thick of things by matching him with Marquez mid to late 2013.

Arum said this when asked about a possibility of Pacquiao fighting a tune-up fight in his next bout as quoted by Philboxing.com “No, no, no. Absolutely not.”

I don’t see why Arum wouldn’t want to put Pacquiao in a soft fight next time out to test where he’s at after his terrible knockout loss to Marquez. If I were Pacquiao’s promoter I wouldn’t be comfortable putting Pacquiao back in with Marquez in his next fight without testing Pacquiao against a lower level fighter to see if he can still take a shot without keeling over face down on the canvas again. I’d want to have Pacquiao take at least two soft fights before even considering having him fight a guy like Marquez again.

Let’s face it, Pacquiao might be a shot fighter after getting knocked out by Marquez, and it’ll be sad for him to find out the hard way by thrown back in with Marquez and getting knocked cold again. Marquez is like a hungry wolf, and if Arum tosses Pacquiao back in with him, I think bad things are going to happen to the Filipino, I really do.

Marquez has already shown his superior talent in all of their previous fights, so why does Arum want to take a chance by putting him back in with without testing whether his fighter is still all there in terms of his ability to take a hard shot?

Arum wants to get Pacquiao tested at a special brain clinic in Las Vegas, Nevada.

However, I don’t think they’ll be able to detect whether Pacquiao can take a shot or not. They can find brain bleeds and signs of damage, but I’m so certain that they can find out whether his chin is gone.
