Amir Khan looked the same

khan534By Mark Calooke: Last night Amir Khan (27-3, KO’s19) faced off against Carlos Molina (17-1, KO’s 7) in an attempt to save his career after back to back loses. Molina looked like he had been in a fight after 1 round. Khan practically dominated the fight apart from the few times he was rocked, eventually winning at the end of the 10th after Molina was pulled out by his team.

In the buildup Khan had expressed his delight at being transformed by master trainer Virgil Hunter. Khan said he had learnt a lot about defense and had become a more mature boxer. No one believed it was true and it wasn’t, he looked the same. In fact the change seems to have been a waste of time. I thought Khan may have a least gained some defense, but no.

What really frustrated me in the buildup was the way both Amir Khan and Golden Boy Promotions painted the fight. They made it out to be a hard fight and a tough fight. But it was nothing more than a confidence fight. I don’t blame Khan for taking it. but why make it out to be a good fight. It cons the fans.

Khan showed worrying signs throughout the fight. Molina lacks the power at Lightweight to knock people out. He stepped up to Light Welterweight to face Khan and managed to rock him at times. It doesn’t fill me with optimism regarding Amir Khan’s chin.

In my opinion arrogance has put Khan in the position he is in. After he lost to Peterson he was constantly talking about a fight with Floyd Mayweather. It shocked a lot of people. He should have been thinking of Danny Garcia but wasn’t. When he lost to Garcia he still maintained that he was one of the best fighters in the world. I don’t know anyone that would even place him in the top 50. He should have said “I got it wrong. Back to the drawing board”. But first it was a man in a hat, and second it was Freddie Roach. He refused to accept any of the blame.

I believe Amir Khan will go on to win another world title. Golden boy will avoid punchers and plot an easy route to the title. But I’m sure they will never put him into the ring with Danny Garcia.
