Purmire said on his twitter “Richard Schaefer said he has initiated talks with Floyd Mayweather’s reps for a Robert Guerrero fight.”

This is great news because it would be a pity to see the World Boxing Council have to strip Mayweather of his WBC title for failing to defend it against Guerrero after they ordered the fight.

A fight between Guerrero and Mayweather works out well for Mayweather, because it’s definitely the easiest fight that he take right now. Fans want to see Mayweather fight WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez or fight Manny Pacquiao, and those would be really hard fights for Mayweather at this point. Both of them are toss up fights for Mayweather right now, especially with him not looking so great in his last fight. But Guerrero is a much easier option for Mayweather, and definitely easy money.

Guerrero did a good job of defeating Andre Berto last Saturday night. Berto tried Mayweather’s shoulder roll defense, but Guerrero found his way through it by overwhelming Berto’s ability to block all the incoming. That’s the weakness of the shoulder roll type defense is that it doesn’t well against fighters that use a high volume attack like the one that Guerrero used.

The shoulder roll works good against fighters that throw single shots, and that’s a potential problem for Mayweather if he fights Guerrero because he’s not going to throw one punch at a time. But it’s still a much easier fight for Mayweather than facing Alvarez or Pacquiao. Guerrero doesn’t have the kind of power that those fighters have, and nor does he have Pacquiao’s speed.

If Mayweather says yes to the Guerrero fight he’s going to have to use a lot more movement than he showed in his win over Miguel Cotto, because Guerrero will walk Mayweather down and try to beat him by throwing nonstop punches like he did against Berto.
