By Chris Williams: Roger Mayweather says his nephew Floyd Mayweather Jr. met with Top Rank promoter Bob Arum over a month ago to discuss putting a fight together between him and Arum’s money fighter Manny Pacquiao and Roger sees the fight happening in the near future, as well as a fight between Mayweather and WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley.

Speaking with Jenna Jay in On the Ropes Boxing Radio at Doghouseboxing.com, Roger Mayweather said “My nephew [Floyd Jr] ain’t scared of no Pacquiao.”

Of course he’s not. Mayweather Jr. knows what he sees in Pacquiao and that’s money in the bank. Pacquiao’s fighting style would be completely ineffective against him. The only issues that they need to iron out is the money split, venue, date and drug testing. Those are the only things that could potentially get in the way of a mega fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao.

If Arum comes at Mayweather with this 50-50 stuff then the fight won’t get made. That right there is obvious. Mayweather is the cash cow of boxing and he’s fighting at a high level still despite being 35. He’s not his last fight like Pacquiao, and he’s not looked poor in his last three fights like Pacquiao. But most importantly, Mayweather’s fights are doing really well on pay per view. He’s not had a fight with less than impressive PPV numbers recently like Pacquiao did in his loss to Tim Bradley last June.

Those numbers were never officially released by HBO, and there’s disagreement about what the numbers actually are. We’ve heard 800,000 buys floated but there’s also talk that the numbers were in the 600,000 range, which is a huge step back for Pacquiao if true. He hasn’t had those kinds of numbers since Arum made the blunder of matching Pacquiao with his Top Rank stable fighter Joshua Clottey back in 2010.
