Image: Price-Skelton tonight in sick mismatchBy Scott Gilfoid: Another fight for British/Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (14-0, 12 KO’s) and another old timer for him. Price faces 45-year-old Matt Skelton (28-6, 23 KO’s) tonight in Liverpool, UK in a really sick mismatch. I know how some boxing fans like to get on Deontay Wilder’s case for some of his mismatches, but this is far, far worse because Skelton doesn’t even possess the tools to make it an actual fight. This isn’t even sporting.

The only thing that is interesting about tonight’s fight is guessing which round Price will knock Skelton out. I say the 2nd round, possibly the 3rd if Price takes it easy on the old guy. But God, this is such a terrible fight. It reminds me of someone hunting with a big goose gun with all the geese trapped in a cage instead of being loose flying around. It’s not even interesting.

All I can say is I hope Skelton goes all out in the 1st round and looks to land a big shot on Price’s tender chin because that’s only way he can win this fight. Skelton needs to pull out all the stops by using veteran tricks. He may have to bend the rules to have a chance to win because in a straight up fight, Skelton doesn’t stand even a slight chance at winning. He’s not a puncher, and that’s kind of the minimum requirement for beating Price. Bermane Stiverne and Roberto Cammarelle were able to chop Price down, but they had huge power going for them. Skelton doesn’t have power, doesn’t have speed and he doesn’t have youth. He’s just there.

Maybe if Skelton goes wild on Price he might be able to tap that weak chin and get him out of there, but it’ll be like hitting the lottery. The odds are really against Skelton in this mismatch.
