Image: Price: I want Tyson Fury in July next yearBy Scott Gilfoid: British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (14-0, 12 KO’s) would like nothing better than to get a shot at facing the trash talking Tyson Fury (19-0, 14 KO’s) next year in July if Fury is up for making the fight with him. Price will be fighting against Matt Skelton (28-6, 23 KO’s) tomorrow night Liverpool, England, and after Price dispatches Skelton, he’d like to fight Dereck Chisora next in early 2013.

Price said to the liverpoolecho.co.uk “It [Fury vs. Price] could genuinely happen, maybe in July next year.”

For the fight to happen Fury will have to win his fight against Kevin Johnson this Saturday night in the UK, and there’s also the question of whether Fury gets a crack at IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko next year. I would suspect that Fury won’t even consider a fight with Price until the Wladimir fight is finished.

I think Fury will want to fight Price after that bout because he’ll really need the fight by then, because Wladimir will expose Fury in the worst way in dominating him either by decision or knockout. Price will still have his unbeaten record, and Fury will need the fight with Price to try and regain what he lost in his defeat to Wladimir.

Talks of a Price vs. Fury fight are still very much premature at this point because both Price and Fury could get taken out before it even gets to that stage. If Price fights Chisora like he says he wants to, Chisora could score a knockout if he lands some of his big right hands on Price’s vulnerable chin. By the same token, Fury might get knocked out on Saturday by Johnson, and then there won’t be any point of Fury even wasting the time of Wladimir because it won’t happen. If Fury can’t beat Johnson then that erases any chance of a Wladimir fight. Like I said, Fury night still get the bout with Price, but definitely not Wladimir.
