Image: Pacquiao thinks Hatton is making a mistake in coming backBy William Mackay: This Saturday night Ricky Hatton has decided to make his comeback after years of being out of the game. He’ll be facing Vyacheslav Senchenko in Manchester, and while Senchenko isn’t considered to be one of the top five welterweights in the division, he’s still a decent bottom 30 guy.

A lot of Hatton’s fans are really excited about him making a comeback and think he’ll find success. Manny Pacquiao thinks Hatton is making a big mistake in coming back and he doesn’t quite understand it.

Speaking to the express.co.uk, Pacquiao said “I do not think it is a good idea…I cannot imagine what is like after a number of years. It’s not just conditioning. It’s the reflexes, legs, mental conditioning and so much more.”

It is kind of a risky thing what Hatton’s doing given that he was knocked out badly in his last fight in 2009 in a 2nd round knockout to Pacquiao. A lot of boxing writers saw Hatton as a shot fighter at the time and many of them wanted Hatton to retire for good. Hatton did retire but he’s back now after three and half years and he says wants to go after a world title. Hatton’s being given the red carpet treatment because World Boxing Association welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi has already said he’ll give Hatton a shot at his title if he can get past Senchenko on Saturday.

If Hatton can beat Senchenko, who is ranked #7 by the WBA, then it’ll be up to the sanctioning bodies to give Hatton a top 15 ranking. Once that happens he’ll get the title shot he’s interested in against Malignaggi.

What Pacquiao doesn’t realize is that Hatton doesn’t appear to be looking to take on any real dangerous welterweights. He wants the Senchenko fight and a title shot. Hatton has already said he’ll retire once he wins a title. Senchenko and Malignaggi aren’t big punchers, so there’s a good chance Hatton can get through those fights without getting knocked out again.
