Image: Mayweather Sr. training Andre DirrellBy Scott Gilfoid: The should be unbeaten super middleweight Andre Dirrell (20-1, 14 KO’s) is now being trained by Floyd Mayweather Sr. in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to examiner.com writer Chris Robinson. Dirrell had been previously trained his entire career by his uncle Leon Lawson Jr. and it’s unknown happened there. But this is a good move because Mayweather Sr. is one of the most talented, the most experienced and the most knowledgeable trainers all of boxing. Dirrell’s only loss of his career was a HIGHLY controversial 12 round split decision defeat against Carl Froch. Most boxing fans who saw that fight had Dirrell easily beating Froch. As such, I don’t count as a loss for Dirrell.

This move could turn Dirrell into a super star. The only thing that Dirrell needs now is to get some fights lined up. His promoter 50 Cent and SMS Promotions needs to start finding some fights for the talented Dirrell because he’s been wasting away on the vine with inactivity. It’s been almost a year now since the lightning fast Dirrell last fought in blowing out Darryl Cunningham in two rounds on December 30th, 2011. It was thought then that Dirrell would be back in the ring and would be looking to get a title shot in the near future, but he’s not been scheduled for any fights and has seen his career stagnate even further.

Mayweather Sr. is considered one of the best defensive trainers in boxing right now, and with his help Dirrell’s opposition won’t be able to lay a glove on him. Dirrell has already has sensational boxing talent in the defensive part of the game but what’s been missing is activity.

Dirrell missed a bunch of time after suffering an injury in the Super Six tournament when he was injured by Arthur Abraham after he fouled him. But then when Dirrell came back it was thought he would be a busy fighter, but 50 Cent hasn’t taken advantage of Dirrell’s incredibly talent by keeping him busy. It’s like having an expensive race car that you never use. Dirrell needs to get back in the ring and start marching forward towards a title.
