By Scott Gilfoid: The big punching Yusaf Mack (31-4-2, 17 KO’s) intends on leaving a lot of sad and gloomy faces this Saturday night in Nottingham when he beats their hero IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) and then brings his International Boxing Federation strap back to the United States to show it off.

Mack said thesun.co.uk “This is the first time I have fought outside the United States. I intend to go back home [to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania] with the belt to make this trip worthwhile.”

Mack said recently that Froch is trying to be like Joe Calzaghe and he intends on either boxing circles around him or blasting him out depending on what tactics Froch brings to the table on Saturday. I don’t see Froch as trying to be like Calzaghe, but I do believe that Mack has a chance at winning this fight because of his power, athleticism and the fact that he’s moving down in weight from 175 to fight at 168. At 6’1″, Mack has probably been fighting outside of the wrong division all these years, which is something that Froch himself hit on as well after sizing Mack up.

Mack looks a little shorter than the 6’1″ listing that they have for him and my guess is he’s closer to 5’11’ than 6’1″. For a fighter only 5’11” to be fighting at light heavyweight, Mack has been at a disadvantage in that weight class. He’s not suited for that class and now he’s getting things right by moving down to fight Froch.

I won’t be surprised if Mack knocks Froch out in this fight. I don’t suspect that Mack can win a decision in Nottingham, so I’m not under any illusions about that happening. But I think Mack has a possibility of stopping Froch. At the very least I see him giving Froch a really tough fight and making him look less than impressive.

There hasn’t been too many fights where Froch has shined recently, and his bout with former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute stood out in a big way. I see that was an anomaly more than anything. We should see Froch getting either a decision where he doesn’t look good or a knockout victory for Mack. It’s going to be one of those two possibilities.
