However, there are a lot of things that stand in the way of a Kessler-Froch rematch starting with Kessler’s fight next month against Brian Magee (36-4-1, 25 KO’s) in Denmark, as well as Froch’s mandatory defense of his title against Adonis Stevenson.

Kessler said “Let me take care of business against Magee first.”

What Kessler fails to mention here is that the WBA has already ordered a fight between him and Ward, and unless he takes that fight Kessler will be stripped of his title. Additionally, Kessler’s promoters are almost surely going to steer him into a unification bout against WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham if they can get the WBA to let them bypass a fight against Ward.

Froch also has a contract for a rematch against former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute, and that too will come before a Kessler fight. Kessler also has a rematch against Andre Ward that’s been ordered by the World Boxing Association and that has to come before the Froch rematch. As such, for a Kessler-Froch fight to take place, Kessler will have to beat Magee, Ward and then probably Arthur Abraham to get to the Froch fight. I’d say the chances are pretty good that Kessler loses to all three of those guys.

Of course, a loss by Kessler at any point in the line will negate the other fights from taking place, as well as a Froch rematch. As for Froch, he has to get past Stevenson and Bute, and that’s a big ask.

I don’t care that Froch has a little two fight winning streak going for him. Stevenson and Bute can beat him and I expect them to do that. As such, the talk of a Kessler vs. Froch rematch are kind of meaningless at this point with both of them staring at dangerous fights against guys that definitely can beat them.
