Image: Huck looks poor against Arslan; Wladimir fight not a good ideaBy Dan Ambrose: WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (35-2-1, 25 KO’s) proved tonight in beating Firat Arslan (32-6, 21 KO’s) that he doesn’t stand a chance against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (58-3, 50 KO’s) in his hoped for his fight in early 2013. Huck’s promoters at Sauerland Events offered Wladimir 5 million euros [$6.5 million] to fight Huck next year.

That might have been a tempting offer for Wladimir before tonight but after seeing how badly Huck struggled to beat 42-year-old Arlan by a 12 round unanimous decision it’s pretty clear that the 27-year-old Huck doesn’t belong in the same ring with the bigger 6’6″ Wladimir. Huck had his head snapped back by Arslan’s uppercuts all night tonight, and it’s hard to understand what the judges saw in Huck’s performance to give him the victory.

At this point it would be a sick mismatch if Huck was put in the ring with Wladimir, and it might be good for Wladimir’s career to be associated with a force like this. Wladimir has it bad enough that he’s had to fight Jean Marc Mormeck and Tony Thompson in his last fight, and is now about to fight the slow Polish heavyweight Mariusz Wach this month on November 10th.

Huck was given an unpopular decision tonight against Arslan, winning by the scores of 115-113, 115-113 and 117-111. However, few boxing fans had Huck winning the fight, and this is his third controversial fight among the 10 that he’s had in title defenses. Many boxing fans thought Huck deserved to lose to Denis Lebedev in 2010, and an equal amount had Huck losing to Ola Afolabi earlier this year. Now Huck adds another controversial decision to that list with his win over Arslan.

Sauerland Events might have to up their offer to Wladimir if they want him to waste his valuable time fighting their guy because Huck just doesn’t rate. He can’t keep getting decision wins in fights that boxing fans see him losing because it makes it hard to take him serious as a fighter when he’s getting these kinds of victories.
