Image: Haye: Hatton has something up his sleeve for SenchenkoBy Scott Gilfoid: David Haye thinks that Ricky Hatton has some kind of sly plan that he’s going to spring on Vyachseslav Senchenko tomorrow night when they get it on in the Manchester Arena in Hatton’s comeback fight. I don’t know why precisely Haye thinks it’s got to be some kind of trick from Hatton, because he’s always fought with the same head first, plodding style his entire career. Why would Hatton change now?

Haye said at hayemaker.com “I know you wouldn’t be coming back if it wasn’t for a reason. I think you have a little something left. You have a little something up your sleeve.”

Hatton with something up his sleeve? The only tricks Hatton will be pulling tomorrow night are the old bag of tricks he’s always had. Hatton is what he is. He blocks punches with his head for the most part and defense has never been one of his strong points in his game. He’s now older at 34, and I hope he’s in good shape because he’s going to need to be in order to still be fighting with the same style he’s been fighting.

I think Hatton is going to be for a brutal shock when he sees how much harder and faster the punches are now that he’s fighting with the lighter gloves. He’s been out of the ring for 3 1/2 years, and his training has been with the bigger gloves. But once he’s in the ring and taking hard shots with smaller gloves with less padding on them don’t be surprised if you see Hatton hit the deck just like old times in his losses to Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. If Senchenko get past the first six rounds of the fight, I see him scoring a knockout over Hatton because Hatton’s going to run out of gas and will take a lot of punishment.
