By Scott Gilfoid: I got a kick out of watching IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) on Sky Ringside the other night claiming he wasn’t at his best when he got spanked by Mikkel Kessler (45-2, 34 KO’s) in the Super Six tournament two years ago in April 2010. Froch lost the fight by a 12 round unanimous decision by the scores of 115-113, 116-112 and 117-111. I think the 115-113 and 116-112 were far too generous for Froch, because I agreed with the 117-111 score. It wasn’t a close fight.

Froch said on Sky “The Mikkel Kessler fight for me is the bigger fight [than trying to avenge his defeat at the hands of Andre Ward], because it’s an outstanding fight and one I know 100 percent I wasn’t right when I went into that fight. And Mikkel Kessler fought the best fight he’s ever fought. He owes me a fight in England. I boxed him in his home in Denmark. He’s an honorable man. He’s got Brian Magee to take care of first. The Mikkel Kessler fight is the big rematch for me. That’s one that can fill any stadium in the UK, and then Andre Ward to correct the wrong that happened in Atlantic City that night.”

Oh boy, Froch making excuses again for another loss. At his post fight press conference after his fight with Yusaf Mack last weekend, Froch was bellyaching about his loss to Ward, blaming it on being in New York around Christmas time. It was one of the more peculiar excuses you’ll ever hear. Now Froch is saying he wasn’t 100% for the Kessler fight.

I wonder why Froch doesn’t just own up to the fact that he got beat by two better fighters than him. Kessler didnt’t fight the best fight of his career in beating Froch. If anything, Froch got Kessler as he was starting to slide. Kessler had already been badly beaten by Ward in his first fight in the Super Six tournament and he didn’t look nearly as good as he was between 2006 to 2008.

I get the impression that Froch wants the Kessler fight because he’s not too eager about getting back in the ring with the talented Andre Ward again after getting thrashed by him last December. Ward beat Froch a worse than Kessler did, so why doesn’t Froch want to fight him more?
