Image: Broner: Beating DeMarco can take me into another worldBy Eric Thomas: Adrien Broner (24-0, 20 KO’s) realizes what’s at stake this Saturday night in his fight against WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (28-2-1, 21 KO’s). Broner knows full well that a win in this fight will take him to the next level where he wants to go to become one of the sports huge pay per view stars. A loss will put Broner right back where he started from and it would be a long climb back up. Losing to a fighter like DeMarco would badly hurt the talented Broner’s career and he can’t risk losing that fight.

DeMarco has beaten top fighters like Broner before, and he believes he can take him out just as he did with Jorge Linares last year.

Broner said to RingTV.com “It’s definitely a defining fight for me. Not only is it a defining fight, but it’s a fight that can cross me over into another world that a lot of boxers can’t go to.”

Broner is right. He could possibly cross over into an area where only a small handful of fighters in the sport are at right now in terms of making it to a pay per view star. Right now there’s only Miguel Cotto, Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Saul Alvarez who are fighting on PPV. Only Cotto, Mayweather and Pacquiao are bringing in the huge PPV numbers now. Alvarez has been fighting on undercards but not as the main attraction, and it’s unclear whether how well he’ll do as a main event fighter. But Broner could quickly be among those fighters if he can get past Demarco on Saturday.

Broner is going to have to figure out how to get past DeMarco’s long reach in order to land his shots. Broner and DeMarco both have identical reach, but DeMarco is three inches taller than Broner and that’s going to really help him in a big way. Broner can’t stay on the outside and let DeMarco spear him with jabs and power shots because he’ll bust Broner up just as he did with Linares. Fighting DeMarco without cuts is hard enough, but it’s much tougher when you can’t see him through the blood and he’s able to rain his big power shots down on you while you’re effectively blinded from the blood.
