Dan Rafael reports that IT WON’T be the recently beaten Delvin Rodriguez.

Apparently there wasn’t enough time for Rodriguez to get ready for the fight and besides that the money’s not right.

This will give the 30-year-old Angulo a good opportunity to get some more viability, as the fight will be aired on Showtime and there’s not much on the card right now other than Khan-Molina and unbeaten heavyweight Deontay Wilder (25-0, 25 KO’s) vs. Kelvin Price (13-0, 6 KO’s). Both of those fights promise to be horrendous mismatches. However, it’s not likely that Angulo is going to be matched against anyone good because he’s missed so much action since being stopped by James Kirkland in the 6th round last year in November. Angulo missed an entire year due to immigration problems.

In his fight earlier this month, Angulo destroyed an over-matched Raul Casarez in a devastating 1st round knockout. Angulo flattened Casarez with a hard left hook that knocked him senseless on the canvas.

Angulo needs to be brought along slowly so that he can learn how to fight guys that have fast hands and who move a lot. In his losses to Kermit Cintron and Kirkland, Angulo had problems with the hand speed of both fighters and he couldn’t handle the movement from Cintron.

If Angulo can get a title shot against WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez he wouldn’t have to deal with speed or foot movement. It would be more of a case of dealing with the straight power of Alvarez. That’s a better match-up for Angulo then trying to deal with guys like Erislandy Lara, Vanes Martirosyan and Austin Trout. Those guys would be a big problem for Angulo right now.
