Viloria: I’m not worried about Marquez

By Chris William: WBO flyweight world champion Brian Viloria (31-3, 18 KO’s) believes that he’s going to beat WBA Super World flyweight champion Hernan “Tyson” Marquez (34-2, 25 KO’s) in their fight on November 17th at the the Sports Arena in Los Angeles, California.

Viloria, 31, has looked good recently but he’s been in with guys that have had problems with his power and speed. He hasn’t faced a young guy with speed, defense and power like the 24-year-old Marquez. Viloria has had his way with sluggers like Giovani Segura, Omar Nino Romero, Julio Cesar Miranda and Liempetch Sor Veerapol. These guys made it easy for Viloria by walking straight into his punches without trying to block his shots. Marquez won’t be fighting like that because he’s good at picking off shots and throwing back power shots in a real hurry.

This is a much tougher opponent for Viloria compared to the last four opponents that Viloria has faced. Marquez is fighting at a really high level lately with wins over Fernando Lumacad, Richie Mepranum, Luis Concepcion and Edrin Dapudong. Marquez has done well in those fights because he hasn’t had to deal with guys that are much bigger than him than he was in his loss to the towering Nonito Donaire in July 2008.

Viloria said to Fightnews.com “I am not worried in the least…I have developed different instincts and talents that Robert never saw and the day of the fight versus ‘Tyson’ they will see.”

Viloria is going to have a really tough time in this fight with Marquez’s youth and power. This is a fighter with a ton of raw power and youth going for him in a fight against an aging lion. Viloria hasn’t lost his skills yet, but he’s also not a spring chicken anymore like Marquez. He’s going to have problems with the pace that Marquez sets for him in this fight and he likely won’t be able to keep up with him.
