Martinez, 37, believes he’ll be as good as new by the end of November.

Martinez is probably going to find out the hard way that it’s going to take many months for his knee to heal up. He’s going to have to strengthen the knee and that’s going to take a lot of time. Even the, it’s likely the knee won’t what it was before the injury. Hopefully, Martinez won’t have to wear some kind of constricting knee brace to support the knee when he fights, but that’s something that he might need to do.

The problem with this injury is that that it could hurt Martinez’s ability to move around the ring like he normally does. If you take away Martinez’s movement then he’s a much more vulnerable fighter, especially against big 180+ pound middleweights like Chavez Jr.

It was Martinez’s movement that was able to help him neutralize Chavez Jr’s huge weight advantage in this fight. In a rematch things could be much different if Martinez is unable to move quickly around the ring.

Bob Arum, the promoter for Chavez Jr., would like to put Martinez and Chavez Jr. back together in the first part of the year in a rematch at the Cowboys Stadium in Texas. He’s already received a positive message from the owner of the stadium, so all that’s needed is for Martinez’s knee to heal up, and Chavez Jr’s upcoming suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission to be completed.

Martinez dominated Chavez Jr. in their fight on September 15th, winning the first 11 rounds before getting knocked down by Chavez Jr. in the 12th. Martinez was able to duck Chavez Jr’s biggest shots after the knockdown and survive the round to get the win.
