Image: Saul "Canelo" Alvarez: Why is he still being spoon-fed weak opposition?By Alex Prodromou: WBC Light Middleweight world champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, 22 is an exciting young prospect. However he has been fed fighters that are not considered A+ fighters. I think the reason he is being held back is because there is one major whole in his arsenal, his footwork. You saw how Shane Mosley was able to move and pressure him with the double jab in the early rounds of the fight. This is just one example of when his footwork let him down.

I want to express my opinion that if Saul Alvarez works on his footwork, he will be unstoppable. He has power, good reactions, good head movement, his conditioning is fantastic, he has very powerful legs, quick hands and so on. If he just works on his footwork a bit more he would be a complete fighter. I’m not saying it has to be Willie Pep standard but just a bit quicker than it is now, for example like Maidana. Who can hit on the move and keep up with fighters like Amir Khan.

If he does this he will have no problem with higher standard fighters and could step it up with no worries from his management and fans at all. I think this is the change that all boxing fans want to see, so one day Saul Alvarez can finally be in there with a top quality fighter, for example Floyd Mayweather Jr or Miguel Cotto. But he will only win if he works on his footwork by not planting his feet every time he punches.
