Guerrero and Berto have reportedly agreed to the fight as of today.

This may not be the huge fight that the 29-year-old Guerrero was looking for when he moved up two divisions from the lightweight division to pick up the interim World Boxing Council welterweight title last July with an unimpressive 12 round decision win over Selcuk Aydin, but it’s probably the best that Guerrero can hope for.

He’s been interested in facing WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr, and who can blame him? It’s a fight that Guerrero would make a ton of money in even in losing by a lopsided decision. However, Mayweather isn’t even slightly interested in facing Guerrero because he doesn’t bring much to the table in terms of a fan base, and Mayweather would be stuck being the only draw in a pay per view fight between them. With Mayweather not interested, Guerrero next tried to get fights against Tim Bradley and Adrien Broner with the same results. They weren’t interested. However, things have finally turned positive for Guerrero with Berto agreeing to fight him.

Berto tested positive recently for a banned substance norandrosterone, which caused the cancellation of his hoped for rematch against Victor Ortiz. The positive test was later attributed to contaminated dietary supplements that Berto had used, and he’s since been cleared to fight. Berto was then planning on fighting for the IBF junior middleweight title against champion Cornelius Bundradge but instead Berto has opted for the arguably bigger fight against Guerrero.

You’d have to pick Berto in this fight against Guerrero, because Guerrero looked weak with his shots against Aydin and he ran out of gas completely in the last three rounds of the fight. Never a big puncher even in the lower weights, Guerrero is even weaker now that he’s moved up to welterweight. This should be an easy fight for Berto to win because he’s much faster and much more powerful than Guerrero. The only way Berto has problems in this fight is if the long layoff from the ring has hurt his stamina, speed and power. But even if he runs out of gas late in the fight, Berto should be able to build up a big enough lead to easily win the fight by a decision, if he doesn’t knock Guerrero out in the first six rounds.
