Guerrero said to RingTV “I really feel that Emanuel Steward was the best trainer in boxing, period. Dedicating this fight to him I think that it’s appropriate.”

Guerrero is putting a lot of pressure on himself by doing this and I’m not so certain it will help him get past the 29-year-old Berto. First off, Guerrero is fighting out of his weight class after having moved up to welterweight in his last fight. Guerrero is like Erik Morales, who just never looked like he belonged when he moved up in weight to light welterweight despite beating a few guys and doing a decent job in some of his losses against Marcos Maidana and Danny Garcia. Guerrero doesn’t look like he belongs at welterweight, and is probably going to take a beating against Berto on November 24th.

Guerrero defeated previously #1 WBC contender Selcuk Aydin by a 12 round decision last July, but that win proved nothing other than the fact that Guerrero didn’t carry his power and what little speed he had to begin with up from the lightweight division. Aydin was always someone that boxing fans saw as a flawed fighter with an inflated record. All Guerrero did was highlight that by beating him. But a lot of fighters in the welterweight division would have likely have done the same thing with Aydin if given the chance.

It’s admirable that Guerrero is dedicating the Berto fight to Steward but it’s also completely meaningless without the given talent to win the fight. Guerrero could dedicate the fight to anyway but it won’t matter if he doesn’t have the god given talent needed to win, and I don’t think he does. Hopefully, after Guerrero loses badly go Berto next month, Guerrero will get a clue and move back down to lightweight because he doesn’t belong at 147 and we’re going to see that on November 24th when Berto totally school him.
