McKenna (McJack): Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) arrived in Los Angeles on Saturday, nearly two weeks later than had been originally anticipated. The unofficial reason put forth by the Pacquiao camp for the delay was that the Sarangani Congressman needed to tie up some loose ends related to his congressional duties.

Whatever the reason for the delay it did not set well with Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, who had to forego some promotional activities which were designed to hype Manny’s upcoming fight with WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (53-6-1, 39 KO’s).

Many were skeptical when they heard that the “Pacman” would be training hard in the Philippines before his departure for his training camp at trainer Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Hollywood. But all indications are that Pacquiao is serious about getting into top form and delivering a convincing victory on December 8 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. Supposedly Manny is exhibiting a determination for the 4th Marquez fight that has not been seen in years.

Trainer Freddie Roach has stated on more than one occasion that he does not think Pacquiao can win by a decision. Roach apparently believes this because Manny has received the benefit of the doubt from ringside officials in past fights with Marquez.

Thus far the 4th Pacquiao – Marquez fight has not generated the same kind of interest as the first three fights. Many boxing fans believe that another fight between the two will be more of the same with the fight ending indecisively. Boxing observers are only too well aware that “El – Dinamita” has the kryptonite to offset whatever Pacquiao brings into the ring. Every time Manny steps it up a notch, Marquez finds the antidote to counter his latest move.

Marquez unequivocally believes that he won all three previous encounters with Pacquiao despite his being floored four times in the three fights. Most boxing fans feel that at the very least Marquez deserved the decision in the Trilogy fight last November. Marquez has received some criticism for not being more aggressive against Pacquiao and believe that is the key to victory. It is an old axiom in boxing that you can’t take a champions title by backing up throughout the fight.

As expected both Pacquiao and Marquez are predicting victory and both fighters are promising to bring a new angle to their game plan.
