By Jason Kim: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (24-0, 15 KO’s) already did a number on 36-year-old Erik Morales (52-8, 36 KO’s), but now he’ll have to do it again due to Morales having a rematch clause in his contract for the previous time they fought in March of this year in a fight that saw Garcia pound out and easy 12 round unanimous decision. Garcia dominated but ended up suffering a broken nose from one of Morales’ hard jabs.

Throwing jabs was pretty much all Morales could do in that fight because he didn’t have the hand speed, flexibility, work rate, stamina or the youth to stand and trade with Garcia. However, Morale’s jab was good enough to bust Garcia’s nose and make fight look a lot closer than it actually should have.

Garcia won the fight by the scores of 117-110, 116-112 and 118-109. The latter score was perhaps the score that was the closest to matching the actual fight itself. No way was that fight a 116-112 score.

It was a sickening mismatch and their rematch that’s talking place on October 20th promises to be another mismatch. Morales is just too old now and has lost too much through age.

Garcia only needs to put pressure on Morales for 12 rounds and this guy will get taken out. I don’t expect Garcia to be able to score a knockout because Morales has a really good chin, and he’s been punched harder by other opponents.

Morales is going to have some problems in this fight unless he can fight at the same level he did seven years ago. He would have to get back to where he was in his last 20s for him to have a chance against Garcia, and even then it wouldn’t be a good chance because of Garcia’s huge size after rehydrating. He’s like a Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. with the weight he puts on weight after making the 140 pound weight limit. Morales is still little more than a super bantamweight with extra fat on him that he can’t seem to lose no matter how hard he tries.
