Image: Erik Morales vs. Danny Garcia II: Can time be defeated?By Gerardo Granados: The former four-division Champion and future hall of fame member Erik “Terrible” Morales has had a long boxing career but can he keep on fighting forever? The major preys of these old lion king are Junior Jones, hall of fame member Daniel Zaragoza, future hall of fame members Marco Antonio Barrera and Manny Pacquiao; but that was quite a long time ago.

Morales was only 21 years old when he defeated Zaragoza back in 1997, when Daniel was already 39 years old. At the age of 35 years old Morales defeated Pablo Cesar Cano to pick his fourth division crown after a two years retirement.

Morales still is a good fighter, he is smart inside the ring and his overall boxing skills are good but he is no longer in his prime. Erik does not have the speed or mobility that he used to have, his power is average at the light welterweight division, also thru the years he has engaged in too many bloody wars.

Garcia is a young lion, he is confident after upsetting Amir Khan via TKO 4, but let´s not forget that Amir was able to connect Danny with quite ease taking advantage of the poor defensive skills of Garcia, who has a good chin and power but does not have hall of fame boxing skills level.

For most sports writers Terrible is the clear underdog in this fight, he might have to defeat “kronos” first and then defeat Danny Garcia next October 20. Morales has stated on his twitter account to have prepared very well and that his body is responding well to the training regime, so you can not expect any excuses if he lost his upcoming fight.

A friend of mine will bet againts Morales, he thinks this is a done deal so I should not bet even one cent on Erik. Logic tells that the young lion should win and the betting odds also make it sound as a logic thing to happen; but still I am going to bet for the underdog to win. Why? Because of the Champion lack of experience and good defensive skills give a chance to the challenger who still has enough tools to win. Garcia does not have blazing speed or great mobility and he rather brawl than to box to outpoint his opponents, so he might be ideal for Morales who was able to hurt him in the first fight. Maybe my friend is right but Roberto Duran was also old and past his prime when he defeated Iran Barkley.

To be fair, Morales might have to knockout Garcia to win because the majority of the close fights he had, he has lost most of them and this could be the last fight of Morales boxing career. Do the readers believe Morales can defeat kronos and then defeat Danny Garcia; or will father time do his final job?
