The money collected from Chavez Jr. will be given to hospital that cares for children with cancer.

In addition to the fine, the WBC has given Chavez Jr. a suspension for an definite amount of time according to their website. Chavez Jr. has to enter a rehab center to get treatment for his marijuana use. The WBC will reportedly be checking to see if Chavez Jr. is indeed seeking treatment. With the suspension being for an indefinite period of time Chavez Jr. could possibly serve a short suspension depending on how long the rehab treatment.

It depends on where Chavez Jr. will be seeking treatment. If it’s in the United States it could take months, but if Chavez Jr. seeks treatment in Mexico then who knows how long he’d have to get help. It’s hard to imagine treatment lasting more than a month at best so Chavez Jr. could still be getting off with a mere slap on his hands in terms of a suspension by the WBC.

Chavez Jr. still has to face a suspension and fine by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, who will be meeting next week to start looking at Chavez Jr’s case. The Nevada Commission will almost surely give a suspension with an end date along with a stiff fine which will probably be a lot more than the $20,000 that the WBC gave Chavez Jr. The Nevada Commission could suspend Chavez Jr. for up to 1 year and take away his entire $3 million purse. However, they’re expected to give a much shorter suspension as well as a fine well below $3 million.
