Image: Broner: DeMarco won't be able to use his power against meBy Dan Ambrose: Adrien Broner (24-0, 20 KO’s) isn’t too proud to admit that WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (28-2-1, 21 KO’s) is a big puncher, but he doesn’t see it helping him any to win their fight on November 17th at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. At the end of the day, Broner sees his skills as being the reason why he’ll dominate the 26-year-old 5’10” DeMarco and he could be right.

Broner said in an interview at RingTV “A lot of people think that he’s the bigger guy and the bigger puncher, but once we get in there, you will see who is the bigger and the better guy…I know that he’s got the size, and it’s obvious that he can punch. But what’s power against something that you can’t hit?”

Broner does have VERY good defensive skills and hitting him isn’t easy to do. In fact, trying to hit Broner oten gets fighters hurt because he picks off the shots and then counters quickly with shots that his opponents can’t deal with. Broner might end up being the stronger puncher of the two on November 17th, and if DeMarco doesn’t even have that advantage going for him in this fight then he’ll lose. DeMarco is the taller guy by three inches over the 5’7″ Broner.

However, the height doesn’t mean much because Broner’s reach is identical to DeMarco. What this means then is if DeMarco is going to win this fight then he’s going to have to win it by beating Broner in a back and forth fight where DeMarco trades with Broner. I see this as benefiting Broner more than DeMarco, because he has the ability to block and get out of the way of shots a lot better than the slender DeMarco.

For some reason, Broner thinks he won’t get a lot of credit if he beats DeMarco. Broner feels that even if he destroys DeMarco, boxing fans will still find something to nitpick about with him. I don’t know where Broner got the chip on his shoulder, but maybe it’s something that helps drive him forward to success, so it’s altogether a bad thing.
