For Trout, it’s not personal. It’s just his time and Cotto happens to be in the way. The old have to give way for the young, and Cotto is getting up there in age at nearly 32.

Trout said “I know this fight will be the changing of the guard…I still feel a little bad for him…I’ve been a Cotto fan and he’s had a great career…I hope they all know this…They’re going to watch him pass the torch.”

I like the class that Trout is showing by letting Cotto and his fans know the kind of respect that he has for Cotto. That showed a high class individual to put things in those terms. He’s not trying to disrespect Cotto or anyway by bad mouthing him, and it’s great that he’s hoping they can be good friends after this is over. I just hope that Trout is merciful with Cotto, and that he’s able to end it quickly and relatively painlessly when he puts Cotto out of his misery on December 1st.

It would be better if he gets it over with quickly so that Cotto doesn’t have to take too much punishment in the course of losing the fight. I’d hate to see Cotto take another beating like he did in his first fight with Antonio Margarito or his loss to Manny Pacquiao in 2009. Those are brutal beatings that Cotto absorbed in those fights.

Trout strikes me an all around nice guy. It’ll be good to have a person like him as boxing’s next super star because I can see him being a good role model for kids. With his kind outlook and cheerful persona, he could end up getting a lot of endorsements in the future once he gets rid of Cotto and takes out other junior middleweights like Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Erislandy Lara, Vanes Martirosyan, Alfredo Angulo and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
