Amir Khan and his future

I watched some of his recent interviews, and it seems that he knows exactly what he wants to do with Khan. And if he can do half the job he has done with ward, then Khan should improve a great deal. On the other hand, Khan seems to have put his ego aside too.

Khan admits now that his defense needs work and he is willing to learn. It’s better for him to realize that now before it’s too late. He really is at the cross roads and another loss to a big underdog like Carlos Molina could really drive his fans away. He thrives on being popular and he is already having a tough time getting people to like him in the U.S. And regardless of what he says, he has a burning desire to win the fans over in the United States.

I personally think that he made a great decision to leave Freddie Roach and get away from all the lime light. As much as I think that Khan needs to shut his mouth at times, I agreed with his statement about Freddie not being a great defensive trainer. All of his top fighters take a lot of punishment and no one seems to focus on defense that much. Manny has a great chin and so does Chavez Jr. But when was the last time we saw them win fights because of their defense?

It is no secret that Khan doesn’t possess the same chin, but it seems unfair at times that he is constantly referred to having a glass chin. You don’t go 12 rounds with someone like Maidana and win quite convincingly with a glass chin. He still has time on his side. But he needs to step into the training camp as a student. He paid for being over confident in his last two fights and another loss would be detrimental to his career. He was dreaming of getting a fight with Mayweather Jr., and that fight could’ve happened if he didn’t lose to Garcia. He has a tough road ahead.

He is going to have to take some dangerous fights in his division against guys like Alvarado, Rios and Matthysse, and beat them before moving up to the Welterweight division. Otherwise, he will never gain the kind of respect he wants. In terms of skills, he is a notch above all these guys, but there is no way he would beat them unless he fights to his strengths. And that means he is going to have to listen to Virgil Hunter and absorb everything Virgil tells him.

I think Khan could really have a bright future if he gets his act straight. He is one of the few who is in the position to land a fight against Hatton and kell brook. And those fights would be massive in the U.K. I don’t know if a fight with Mayweather Jr. is a possibility at this point because who knows how long Mayweather Jr. will be fighting. But I wouldn’t count out the possibility of a fight between Manny and Khan. If Khan is willing to fight his friend: Ricky Hatton, then why not Manny?
