Scott Harrison not ready for Burns

By Steven Ocallaghan: At the SECC in Glasgow, Scotland, Scott Harrison continued on his comeback with a dominant points win over last minute stand in Joe Elfidh. Harrison, on his 2nd fight of his comeback now wants a title shot against Scotland’s WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns.

Burns, who completely overpowered Dagenham fighter Kevin Mitchell also on the same bill is way to son for Harrison. Harrison did enough but wasn’t overly impressive in the way he dealt with the Harworth fighter.

After flooring Elfidh it looked likely the Scot would get an early bath but was to eager in his approach, looking almost desperate to get the stoppage to show he was back and ready for a title shot.

For me, Harrison is 2 or 3 good wins away from being considered to face a fighter of Burns calibre, but if he keeps on winning will eventually earn his shot.

I’ve been a fan of Harrison ever since he made his debut 16 years ago but the strength of opposition in his comeback is nowhere near strong enough to get a crack at the world title.

It was rumored that Harrison was going to face John Murray and that would’ve been a great marker, but it’s somebody of Murray’s ilk or even last nights defeated contender Kevin Mitchell that would show us if he is ready.
It’s a long journey back to being a champion and there are no quick fixes but Harrison is back on the right track and if he keeps on winning, he might just get there.
