Image: Koncz: Pacquiao wants to bring back the fans who booed him after the Marquez fight last NovemberBy Chris Williams: Michael Koncz, the personal adviser to former WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, says that the Filipino wants to bring back to boxing fans that booed him after he was given a controversial 12 round majority decision win over then 38-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez last year in November at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pacquiao will be fighting a rematch with Marquez on December 8th in Las Vegas to try and improve upon his last performance against the Mexican warrior.

Koncz said to the Los Angeles Times “Manny is a consummate entertainer and showman who cares about his fans. He heard the boos after his last fight with Marquez. He has a lot of fans in Mexico and loves them. He wants to bring those fans back.”

You have to wonder why Pacquiao chose to fight Tim Bradley after Pacquiao won a controversial decision over Marquez last November. Many boxing fans were screaming for a Pacquiao-Marquez rematch, but did we see that? Nope. Pacquiao chose to fight Tim Bradley instead and lost that fight to him last June. It’s unclear whether Bradley was Pacquiao’s idea of his promoter Bob Arum’s idea. Bradley was one of Arum’s recent signees to his Top Rank stable, which made the Pacquiao-Bradley bout and in house Top Rank fights.

I think Pacquiao will be able to get a lot of the Mexican fans back or at least Marquez will. However, unless the judges pick a clear winner in this fight there’s going to be a lot of booing again, because we’ve seen a ton of controversy in Pacquiao’s three previous fights with Marquez. We also saw a lot of controversy from Pacquiao’s recent loss to Bradley last June.

Arum wanted Pacquiao to fight Marquez again because of the big pay per view buys that Marquez can potentially bring in due to his large Mexican fan base.
