Image: Golovkin #2 in Ring poll for voting in best middleweight in the worldBy Dan Ambrose: WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-0-1, 32 KO’s) came in #3 in a RingTV poll for who the best middleweight is in the world with 12%. Former WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (49-2-2. 28 KO’s) came in #1 in the boxing fan voting at 68.1%, and WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (24-0, 21 KO’s) took #2 at 14.9% of the vote.

Here is the current poll results:

Sergio Martinez 68.1%
Gennady Golovkin 14.9%
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. 12%

This is a bad sign for the 26-year-old Chavez Jr., because he’s about to face Martinez on September 15th in Las Vegas, and with boxing fans not seeing him as legit as the number #1 fighter in the division, it’s looking bad for him. Chavez Jr. could be about to get exposed and finally beaten.

Chavez Jr. has already four fights where he appeared to get beaten in both fights against Carlos Molina, his first fight against Matt Vanda and his fight last year against Sebastian Zbik. However, this time Chavez Jr. will likely get the loss because Martinez, with his power, will take the judges out of the equation by knocking Chavez Jr. out. Martinez doesn’t just beat an opponent by a decision, he knocks you and makes spectators out of judges. There won’t be any controversy in this fight unless we see another long count like in the second Jack Dempsey vs. Gene Tunney fight in September 1927. Martinez will beat Chavez Jr. and will beat him by a knockout.

Golokin has won boxing fan’s respect for his impressive 5th round knockout win over Grzegorz Proksa last Saturday night. Golokvin looked like a beat in knocking Proksa down three times to get an easy win. That performance from the hard hitting Golovkin really raised his stock in a big way, because before that fight a lot of fans in the U.S didn’t have a clue who Golovkin was. But afterwards many of them were immediate fans of his.
