By Jim Dower: Commonwealth and IBF Inter-Continental super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton (15-0, 10 KO’s) blew away former IBF super featherweight champion Steve Molitor (34-3, 12 KO’s) on Saturday night in scoring a 6th round TKO victory at the Odyssey Arena, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. Frampton, 25, knocked Molitor down three times en route to getting the 6th round stoppage win.

Molitor, 32, was knocked down in the 3rd, 4th and 6th rounds in this one-sided fight. Molitor looked like he didn’t want to be there after the first knockdown in the third round, he game-fully stayed and continued to take punishment until the fight was halted at 2:21 of the round.

Former EBU light welterweight champion Paul McCloskey (24-2, 12 KO’s) was able to keep his career afloat a little while longer by defeating light welterweight contender Manuel Perez (18-8-1, 4 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision. The final scores were 118-110, 118-111 and 118-112. Perez didn’t throw enough punches and didn’t have the power to trouble McCloskey the same way that Breidis Prescott and DeMarcus Corley did. This is the kind of fighter that McCloskey can beat. However, he’ll have problems once he’s put in with a contender that actually punch. The Irish fans weren’t all that impressed with McCloskey’s fighting style at times, as a lot of them booed the lack of action.
