Broner to Guerrero: “Send the contract. I will sign it”

By Dan Ambrose: WBC welterweight interim champion Robert Guerrero (29-1-1, 18 KO’s) really struck a nerve today when he confronted Adrien Broner (24-0, 20 KO’s) at the Andre Ward vs. Chad Dawson weigh-in in Oakland, California. Guerrero got in Broner’s face and seemed to pester him until finally Broner snapped, telling him to “Send the contract. I’ll sign it.”

For those people who thought Broner was just giving some lip service by telling Guerrero to send him a contract. Broner repeated those words in his twitter today, saying “Send the contract. I will sign it.”

Now it’s up to their mutual promoter Golden Boy Promotions whether they’ll allow Guerrero and Broner to fight each other. I’d be very surprised if Golden Boy says yes to that fight, because they seem to be holding out hoping to get a fight between Guerrero and WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. Broner will possibly ruin those plans if he takes on Guerrero and beats him as badly as he’s been beating other guys recently. A Guerrero loss would mean that he can kiss goodbye any chance, small as it is, to ever fight Mayweather in the future.

Of course, Broner might be as good as Guerrero can get, because Mayweather isn’t going to ever fight him. Golden Boy should be smart enough to realize that. If they set Guerrero aside and keep him away from all the serious threats that could possibly beat him while waiting for a Mayweather fight, then they could end up messing Guerrero up when the Mayweather fight never ends up happening.
