Arum: This the last Pacquiao-Marquez fight

By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) and Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KO’s) will be fighting each other for the fourth time in their careers when they meet on December 8th at the MGM Grand, Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.

This hasn’t pleased a lot of boxing fans, many of which see this as just another money grab potential by the promoter of the fight Bob Arum of Top Rank. Fans are tired of seeing Pacquiao facing the same guy repeatedly and they want to see Pacquiao matched up with Floyd Mayweather Jr. or someone new.

When asked if there was a possibility that Pacquiao could be back for a 5th fight with Marquez if their December 8th fight does well, Arum said to Philboxing.com “This will be it!”

Whether Arum means it is anyone’s guess. I think if Pacquiao doesn’t have any other options for big money fights we’ll see Arum trotting Marquez out for a fifth time. I have no doubts that Marquez will be brought in again if a fight between him and Pacquiao bring in pay per view totals of 1.2 million and above. I see these two guys continuing to be matched up against each other until the numbers drop below 1 million buys.

Pacquiao and Marquez will be starting their press tour on Monday, September 17th, and will make stops in New York as well as Mexico City to try and drum up fan interest.

You can count on HBO putting together at least four Pacquiao-Marquez 24/7 episodes to get boxing fans to want to purchase the fight on PPV.

Pacquiao has won their last two fights by controversial decisions and Marquez is still not happy about the judging for both fights. He feels like he’s going to need to knock Pacquiao out on December 8th in order to get the win, because he doesn’t have any faith in the judging.

I really do hope this is the last fight between Pacquiao and Marquez because it’s old already and it’s hard to trust the decisions that are handed down when Marquez appears get the better of Pacquiao every time and still ends up losing.
