Will Tyson Fury face another soft opponent for his next fight?

Image: Will Tyson Fury face another soft opponent for his next fight?By Scott Gilfoid: Despite being ranked high in the heavyweight division at #6 WBC, #11 WBO, #14 IBF, unbeaten Tyson Fury (19-0, 14 KO’s) has been reluctant to fight contenders in the division for reason. At 24, you would think that Fury would at least try and fight one contender even if it’s just a fringe level fighters.

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen because we’ve heard 43-year-old James Toney’s name bandied about as a potential next opponent for Fury. How sad. That’s even worse than David Price fighting 40-year-old Audley Harrison in October and calling it fight that will improve his game.

What is it with these fighters? Why do they just want to fight fodder all the time? It’s not as if it’s going to help Fury and Price. They’re just stagnating if you ask me. You can’t improve against opposition like this, and you’re not going to build a name against an old opponent that’s no longer relevant.

I sure would like to see Fury step it up and at least try and fight someone like Kubrat Pulev, Denis Boytsov or Alexander Dimitrenko next. I want to see how he does against a decent Euro level fighter. If Fury gets knocked cold, then it’s all good because he can quit wasting his time with boxing and find another line of work. It’s better for Fury to find out sooner rather than later that he doesn’t have the talent to compete against quality heavyweights.

Fury could face IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in 2013. That’s going to be a complete slaughter because Wladimir is so much quicker, stronger and better in every department than Fury. He might as well fight Wladimir now, because waiting until next year won’t change a thing. This isn’t like aging in dog years. Wladimir will be just one year older next year, not seven years older. He’s going to spank Fury, and there’s nothing going to change that. Fury can dine on 43-year-old opponents 24/7 until then and he’s still going to be in way over his head when he faces Wladimir.
