Image: Will fans pay to see a Pacquiao - Bradley rematch?By John F. McKenna (McJack): Former eight division champion Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) has a very difficult decision to make in the next several days. It is likely that “Pacman” would like to even the score with new WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (29-0-1 NC, 12 KO’s) after the deplorable decision which cost him his title belt in June.

Undoubtedly the decision has been a tough one because after meeting with Top Rank CEO Bob Arum an opponent has still has not been named.

The horrendous decision which gave “Desert Storm” the victory has left a sour taste in the mouths of boxing fans world wide. It was probably the worst decision this boxing writer ever saw. It begs to ask the question as to whether boxing fans would pay to see a rematch for a fight which nearly 90% of boxing fans thought Pacquiao won by a wide margin.

Obviously all options were on the table when Pacquiao and Arum met to discuss a possible opponent for November 10. Normally in any business the bottom line is of supreme importance. Who Manny’s next opponent will be is no exception to that rule.

The Pacquiao – Bradley fight in June drew approximately 900,000 in Pay Per View (PPV) sales (or 700,000 depending on the news source). In any case the fight did not perform well and was 300,000 to 400,000 behind in PPV sales to Pacquiao’s recent fights.

Bob Arum has a habit of saying that the final decision as to who Pacquiao fights is up to Manny. That may be true, but it is also evident that “Uncle Bob” exerts a huge amount of influence on Pacquiao and has a way of getting what he wants.

How boxing fans would react to a Pacquiao – Bradley rematch is largely unknown. Bradley for years has demonstrated that he does not have the ability to draw fans to his fights. The fact that he became a world champion through a dubious decision will not transform him into a fighter who boxing fans want to pay money to see.

Arum was not able to use his enormous marketing skills to turn the first Pacquiao – Bradley fight into a major event, even with the Filipino icon on the card. It is doubtful that the Top Rank CEO would be happy about promoting another fight in which it is almost guaranteed that the PPV sales would be sub par.
